Hutto Texas: Wonder What This Window Has Seen

Texas has some great old buildings, frequently marginalized by the big, new shopping centers that seem to crop up everywhere.

Hutto, just a little northeast of Austin, is no exception. The old downtown is just a few blocks, and just a few buildings.

This one window was just too marvelous not to share.

Don't you wonder: how many generations of business owners or children-of-patrons have peered out these windows? What did they see in the street - big SUVs, or Model-Ts?

Westbrook Metals: Old Metal Workers Stool

Had an hour to kill at Westbrook Metals in Ausitn Texas this afternoon, waiting for parts for Orlando's DIY steady cam.

Finally got bold and snuck in to the warehouse floor and snapped some pix.

Am enthralled with this one - wonder how many men have contributed to the wear and tear on this old stool - and how many years it's been sitting under the same set of metal saw horses, close enough to grab, but tucked out of the way the rest of the time?

Lovejoys in Austin Texas: Cool Hangout?

I'm too old to hang out on 6th street in downtown Austin.

Fortunately, I'm not too old to snap pix of 6th Street and the cross streets, plump with crazy characters, old doors, decrepit buildings, weathered signs, rust and graffiti.

Have you been to Lovejoys? Can you imagine what lies behind those battered doors in the form of Austin twenty-something entertainment and indulgence?

We ran around to a few local skateboard shops in Austin, Texas this week looking for bearings for a thing that Orlando is making.

These boards were lined up on the wall at Apparition Skateboards on North Loop in Central Austin.

Old Purple Car: Not Your Everyday Ride

 Jumped out to snap a few when the owner walked out of the convenience store - Charlie of Mercury Charlie, an old car restoration specialist on McNeil, just a bit East of 183.
